Omniscient Safety Innovations are fully insured and registered instructors qualified to deliver all 3 levels of RQF/SQA First Aid for Mental Health Course, accredited by FAA (First Aid Awards).

These courses are instructed on the following levels:

Level 1 Award in Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health RQF/SQA (Half day course)

On this course you will learn to recognise a range of mental health conditions. This could be crucial for your business as at least 1 in 6 employees experience common mental health problems in the workplace; becoming aware of these issues could be a step towards improved employee welfare. 

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health
  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation
  • Stress
  • Detailing mental health conditions

You will also learn how and when to start a supportive conversation as well as the correct time and process to signpost a person to seek appropriate, professional help. Mental health conditions are often hidden due to stigma and fear of discrimination and research has shown that a culture of fear and silence around mental health is costly to employers.

Taking steps to improve mitigate any potential stigmas could promote staff welfare and ease the financial cost of staff absenteeism.

You will also take important steps to learning how to manage stress.

Level 2 Award in First Aid for Mental Health RQF/SQA (1 full day)

Learners would acquire all knowledge as per level 1 course;

  • Recognise mental health conditions 
  • How to start a supportive conversation 
  • How to signpost for professional help

Learners will also learn how identify the signs of stress and how to appropriately manage these symptoms. Research has shown that work is the biggest cause of stress which can stop people performing at their best; therefore, identifying and dealing with these issues could make a profound impact on your business.

You will also be trained on the implementation of a first aid action plan for mental health. This process will standardise the approach to mental health in the workplace, helping your business implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace.

You will also learn and understand the impact of substance abuse.

Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (all of above, 2 full days)

Learners would acquire all knowledge as per level 1&2 course;

  • Recognise mental health conditions 
  • How to start a supportive conversation 
  • How to signpost for professional help 
  • Learn to manage stress
  • First aid action plan for mental health

In this level learners will study in greater detail the support/therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. You will look in greater detail at the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD and several others. You will also be able to describe the support & therapy provided by professional healthcare providers. With more knowledge of these you will be better suited to provide first aid for mental health, helping the transition into more formal care.

All qualifications are valid for a 3 year period before re-qualification is required.
